We have lived in the Mt Warning Caldera in North Eastern NSW for 32 years, persuing a life long interest in all things natural. Living in the prettiest valley in the Tweed, Limpinwood Valley, surrounded by the towering peaks of the World Heritage listed Border Ranges National Park.
In 1977 we founded Limpinwood Gardens Nursery an Australian Plant Nursery that specialises in the introduction of improved varieties of native plants, syzygiums (lilly pillys) in particular. Our property, which was once a denuded cattle farm, has been planted with thousands of varieties of Australian Native Plants, creating habitat for many native animals. Wallabies abound and the birdlife is fantastic. Employing 10 staff in our nursery, plants are shipped Australia wide.
In 1991 we founded the 'Tweed Valley Wildlife Carers' and ran the organisation from our nursery business for ten years. Receiving approximately 1200 calls for distressed wildlife each year we created a strong body of volunteers to rescue, raise and release the rehabilitated wildlife. Now life members, this organisation is still going strong thanks to the many hours put in by its many carers.
Although occupied by the nursery and his love of plants, Russell has always had an interest in
semi-precious gemstones. Finches Creek that runs through the property has a huge assortment of jasper and agates. We have also amassed a huge collection of Gems and minerals, and have access to several collections to photograph. Russell cuts and polishes a lot of the specimens himself.
Russell's other interest of photography has led him to discover a unique method in photographing the inner beauty of these gemstones, and create stunning visual images that will captivate you with their vibrant colours. Using a Nikon D700 he is creating 3D images and printing them straight from his camera, no manipulation in photoshop whatsoever. What you see are the true colours and shapes within the gemstones. Sharon's Graphic Design experience is then involved in the presentation of the images. All printed in house on the world's best inkjet printers, an Epson 2880 and for the larger format Epson 9900. which has a fantastic colour gamut with 11 inks including green and orange. Printed on archival quality full gloss paper or canvas. They can be purchased framed, mounted or as prints for ease of postage.
So visit the photo gallery and marvel at what the power of nature can produce. Exquisite colours, that you would not think would go together, but in fact, produce images that are stunning.
